Slashing: how many occurences?

I'm just a starter on the Polkadot nominator landscape. As I did read on various explanations, there's the risk of slashing. I do understand the reason: to be able to punish validators (ánd nominators) who did something bad to the ecosystem (willingly or not). But, as a "simple user", my only mission is to: try to earn as much rewards as possible with the minimum risk to increase my value. How can I find out how often slashing in real life occurs and in what severity? I have read also about the different levels of punishment, where 100% stash-slashing is possible. Where can I find historical figures about this? I also read different guides on how to select your validator, but in my humble opinion: as a simple user you never know the inner working or team behind a validator. Even if they have an identity. Can someone share light to this? Thanks in advance!
